Description

Publisher Blurb:

Deserts are popular locations in fantasy settings. They can be home to strange civilisations, either still extant or long-lost, with unique and unusual magics. There may be tombs hidden by the sands and nomads traversing the wastes. This supplement has one hundred different encounters for such a location, which may be potentially valuable, potentially dangerous, a source of adventure hooks or simply background colour. The encounters are strongly influenced by Egyptian and Arabian desert imagery, but should be suitable for most settings.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

During the night, the temperature drops well below freezing, and those not prepared for this may suffer (as per severe cold in Cold Dangers of the Environmental Rules in Chapter 13 of the Core Rulebook). In the morning, everything is covered in a lair of frost, which quickly melts and evaporates when the sun rises.

Four headless statues, depicting lightly dressed and muscular men made from limestone stand on plinths. Each statue, minus its head, stands twenty feet high with its plinth. The heads have been forcibly removed from the statue and are buried in the ground at the foot of the relevant statue. The heads are of a jackal, a hawk, a lioness and a crocodile.

Half a dozen skulls stand on the surface of the sand, a few dried scraps of flesh and hair adhering to the bone. If investigated, it can be discovered that the skulls belong to the bodies of half a dozen people who were buried up to their necks in the sand and left to die. Scavengers have eaten the flesh from the exposed heads but the bodies are below the surface, intact and mummified.

Here the desert is covered in low, scruffy-looking shrubs. The shrubs are clearly alive and well, so there is presumably a water source in the area. The plants have very deep taproots, and any water is far below the surface. Each shrub and its root can be tapped to provide clean, if funny-tasting, water.

Huge bone ribs partially protrude from the sand, with the rest of the creature buried beneath. Excavation will uncover the rest of the creature, and it can be identified as the skeletal remains of a whale (DC 10 Knowledge (nature) to confirm), many hundreds of miles from the nearest sea.

One page is the front cover, one the front matter, one is mostly ads and one is the OGL.

The supplement is also available in a system-neutral version, which is slightly shorter and lacks the Pathfinder stats. You do not need both versions.
