Description

From publisher blurb:

By 2070, a significant human presence throughout the solar system is driven by extraterrestrial industrialization and new science facilitated by extraterrestrial labs and gigawatt-scale beamed power from push factories. Advances in medical and prosthetic technologies, nootropics and genetic engineering, have reached a point where humans can reshape themselves within any set of parameters that could be reasonably considered human. Most technologies are robotic, to solve the complexities of user interaction and to take advantage of on-going progress towards true artificial consciousness.

Some colonies declare their independence from Earth and begin the long and complex process of becoming permanent, self-sustaining settlements. Many settlers contending with birth and developmental defects from the harsh circumstances they find themselves in, push even further, breaking the bonds with humanity to become new species. Other colonies are only too willing to accept exomigrants who have done the same.

The outcome of these changes may be war. The re-emerging risk of AI systems being subverted by smart malware means the balance of warfare shifts back to human or near-human pilots who are harder to reprogram than robots and tend to die rather than change sides involuntarily. Corresponding improvements in firefight protection mean that humans can have relatively high survival rates on the battlefield as smart matter and highly dense matter armors become commonplace. Exfiltration becomes an option -- a hostile assault on an enemy facility to acquire an asset, where both sides walk the tightrope between death and mutually assured destruction.

A Facility with Words is a 370 page supplement for the Sixty Years In Space TTRPG and includes Advanced Map, Ecosystem, Species and Robot designers that allow you to map sites and travel on terraformed and highly-populated worlds and create new species and robots to encounter -- and an array of weapons to arm them with.
