From the foreword by Jeff Richard, Chair & Creative Director of Chaosium, Inc.:
The first A Rough Guide to Glamour came out in 1997: it was a 40-page booklet written to support Reaching Moon Megacorp’s Life of Moonson, a 50-player live action role-playing game (LARP) which debuted at GloranthaCon V that year. That convention turned out to be a conjunction of the spheres for Glorantha and Chaosium, and its attendees were a veritable Who’s Who of the modern Team Chaosium. This is where I started my writing partnership with Greg Stafford and began a long and fruitful friendship between Michael O’Brien and myself. But most important, on a long, bleary-eyed drive from Victoria back to Seattle, Nick Brooke, Chris Gidlow and I created schemes and stories that only now are taking tangible form.
Clearly Our Red Goddess blessed that convention and our endeavours – and I think it is fair to say that many of the seeds of the modern Chaosium were planted at that convention. So when Nick, Chris and Mike Hagen told me that they wanted to get this work back into circulation, I was only too pleased to pledge my absolute support!
The Glamour presented here is illuminated with shifting beams of Moonlight. There might be a stray reflection from the pop culture of lost Cool Britannia here and there, bouncing off the glitter of a New Wave discotheque or off the chrome of Telly Savalas’ pate. But that is what happens when you explore the City of Dreams. We aren’t living in the real world here – we are in Glamour, where gods and goddesses walk with men, and where nightmares and fantasies are made flesh.
So enjoy the new Rough Guide to Glamour! Meet with agents of the Spoken Word in Red Square, seek to ascend the Silver Bridge, and gain Illumination and Madness in the soft crimson light of the Red Moon! My infinite thanks go out to Nick, Chris, Mike, and everyone else involved in bringing this lost dream back into the world!
