"The Writer" is the second downloadable episode for Alan Wake. Its story directly continues from the cliffhanger ending of Alan Wake: The Signal; Alan continues to fight his way through the increasingly surreal and muddled landscape of the Dark Place, tormented by televisions that blare psychotic ramblings with his voice. Accompanied by an illusionary friend and increasingly depending on the "words become reality" mechanics used in "The Signal," Alan fights to make his way to the cabin at the heart of the Dark Place and find a way to escape.
