Alea Iacta Est! character creation is free-form and involves each player establishing a few narrative traits for the character that describe what the character is good at. Broad categories provide a small bonus across numerous actions; specialized categories provide a large bonus for a single type of action. The game uses a single mechanic to resolve everything--2D6, possibly modified, compared to an action table.
The game is distributed as a three-page PDF; the third page is a character record sheet.
