Alone Against the Forlorn Wild

From the introduction:

Pale motes fall from the starless sky onto the frozen white ground. The wind rages outside a crude shelter, its icy breath piercing through clothes of stitched fur. A stomach growls and muscles shiver. A long, painful cry echoes through the forest. Scavenged kindling cracks and pops in a weak campfire. What little warmth remains in this frozen scenery is slowly doused by the snowfall. Soon enough, the flames flicker and dwindle... How much longer will the struggle to survive continue?
