American Hero is an adult-oriented interactive movie video game that was developed by Inter-Active Productions and Empty Clip Studios and published by Ziggurat Interactive for Windows PC, Xbox One and Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on November 11th 2021. A PlayStation 4 and 5 port was released on July 4th of 2023. An uncensored version titled American Hero: Unrated was released exclusively through GOG.com for Windows PC on the same day.
American Hero was originally in development by Inter-Active Productions and planned to be published by Atari Corporation for the Atari Jaguar CD and PC some time in 1996. Despite the film being completed, the footage was never turned into a full-fledge game and due to the commercial failure of the Atari Jaguar platform, the project was cancelled and left unreleased as a result.
A previously unseen demo of the Jaguar CD version was released in April of 2003 before the source files and a beta PC build were finally shared online on July 6th 2008. Empty Clip Studios restored the footage and remastered a complete, working version of the game that was officially released in 2021 with newly recorded voice-over by the game's lead actor, Timothy Bottoms.
