ARK - Aberration

Game ID: GID0028601
Collection Status
Description

Waking up on ‘Aberration’, a derelict, malfunctioning ARK with an elaborate underground biome system, survivors face exotic new challenges unlike anything before: extreme radioactive sunlight and environmental hazards, ziplines, wingsuits, climbing gear, cave dwellings, charge-batteries, and far more, along with a stable of extraordinary new creatures await within the mysterious depths. But beware the ‘Nameless’: unrelenting, Element-infused humanoids which have evolved into vicious light-hating monstrosities! On Aberration, survivors will uncover the ultimate secrets of the ARKs, and discover what the future holds in store for those strong and clever enough to survive!

AberrationAberration isn't quite as friendly to organic lifeforms as the one we're used to. The atmosphere has bled from the Ark and the sun is highly radioactive, meaning if you're going to thrive and survive it'll have to be underground in caves. Added to the mix are ziplines and wingsuits for traveling over pits and chasms, new weapons and armor, new items to craft, and of course a host of new creatures.

Unique Features:

Plant Species Z.
No flyers
Unique Creature Variant: Aberrant - mutated by the elements of the ARK. Compared to their standard versions, Aberrant Creatures have 4% less health, deal 6% more damage and glow in the dark. Aberrant creatures are unable to breed with their non-aberrant versions.
Unique Creature: Nameless

Story

The story is primarily told through notebooks and journals hidden all over the island, and through cutscenes that play after defeating all the bosses on each map. The Explorer Notes are either a Dossier or a piece of narrative from actual survivors.Diana Altaras of URE Armed Forces, a group of people from the future, build tek suits with the help of tech expert Santiago. They discover a barrier cutting off access to the rest of Earth and build a bomb in secret to blast an obelisk to bits. Their plan works in bringing down the barrier, but reveals they are actually on a space station orbiting the Earth; what they saw before was an illusion. Without the barrier in place the ARK's surface has become exposed to radiation and low atmosphere, blasted by heat during the day. The group is forced to retreat to an underground cave system were the atmosphere is thicker and shielded from the scorching day heat.

Helena arrives and assists the group in constructing their own gateway, while Rockwell becomes obsessed with a new metal used in the construction of tek gear, a metal he named after himself - Edmunium (aka "Element"). Element is present everywhere on Aberration and has led to many of the creatures bioluminescence. Desperate for a breakthrough in his research, and envious of the more advanced URE Armed Forces, Rockwell injects himsself with Element, mutating into a hideous being. Leaving Rockwell behind, the groups exits through a gateway in the station's core, passing a room with specimen tubes, each containing creatures, fetuses or eggs from the ARKs. It is here Helena discovers the ARKs ability to clone humans and dinos, or transplant memories, using their implants data.

Events continue in the Extinction DLC.
