Beyond Shadowgate is a video game developed and published by Zojoi LLC. It was released for Windows PC on September 19th 2024. It bears no relation to the identically named game released by NEC for the TurboGrafX-CD in 1993.
The game is a direct sequel to the original Shadowgate that first began pre-production over 30 years ago. Unfortunately, the project was abandoned due to lack of interest from the publisher. However, after the success of the 2014 remake of the original game, the designers unearthed the long-forgotten artwork and design documents for the aborted follow-up and began working on reviving the project.
After running a successful Kickstarter campaign (raising nearly $121K on a $25K goal) in March of 2023, the game was expanded in scope to include bonus areas based on Zojoi's other titles; Déjà Vu, Uninvited and Shadowgate VR: The Mines of Mythrok. In addition to the digital release of the game, they also produced limited edition "code in a box" physical versions.
The 8-Bit Warder Box looks like an NES game complete with box, non-functioning cartridge with sleeve, full-color instruction booklet and Styrofoam spacer. The 8-Bit Champion Box is the same save for the cartridge is made of a glow-in-the-dark material and an added metal commemorative coin. Lastly there is the 8-Bit Hero Box which has all of the Champion items contained within a deluxe 35th Anniversary Collector's Box.
