In some rural areas of Europe (like the ones most of the Kid’s grandparents likely came from), it was believed that those who died in mortal sin came back to life as blood-drinking wolves. These "undead werewolves”reverted to human corpses in daylight. They were often dealt with by either exorcism or by decapitation — with the head being thrown into a stream or other body of water, where the “weight of their own sins” would weigh it down. These methods should look remarkably similar to those used to dispose of vampires. We’ve twisted these tales up to say they represent a specific type of cursed undead: the Blood-Moon Werewolf.
