In a secret research facility, a team of scientists from the APEXC Corporation have been working on a project to extract the consciousness from a living human subject and implant it into the body of a mechanical construct in order to create a race of supremely resilient and subservient workers. Despite dozens of attempts, they haven’t been able to master the process, as each of the new hosts maintained a fragmented tether to their former selves and were therefore unpredictable.
