Centuries ago, the Collapse forced the Pentalliace, also known as the Union, to retreat to the Central Systems, forsaking large portions of the Orion Arm. Now, after an era of oblivion, the now called Outskirts are finally slowly re-flourishing under the influence of new nations.
The frontier regions along the Inner Edge of the Known Space are now dominated by the Nargor Empire, which ensures protection and order with its mighty military apparatus. From the most distal areas of the Central Edge come rumors about the mysterious Concordate, whose emissaries travel through the Outskirts to bring reason and help wherever they can. Finally, the inner Outskirts and border marches along the Outer Edge have seen the rise of three major players: the thriving merchant league known as the Arkead Cross, the monolithic nation of the Exarcate, and the Auric Confederation, a heterogeneous alliance of states that claims the title of heir to the ancient Union.
Now, at the turn of the seventh century since the birth of the Union and almost 400 years after its fall, the Known Space is shaken by tensions between the nations that govern it, while unsolved mysteries emerge from a remote past and unknown threats creep just beyond the Edge, where the knowledge of the Orion Arm civilizations fades into the vastness of uncharted space.
