Description

Publisher's blurb:

This is the 73rd in an ongoing series aimed to provide the overworked DM with ready-to run encounters. The PCs are stalked by chronocats, the assassins of time.

A single chronocat is CR 8. The encounter can easily be modified by increasing the number of foes.

According to legends, the rulers of the fey realms asked Tempus to grant them a special sort of time, different from that of most of the prime material plane. While powerful, Tempus was not omniscient and was curious about the effects of such time. He agreed to grant their request but asked that they provide him with agents to deal with temporal transgressions. Since Tempus already had his clock dogs, he wanted something different, something suitable for dealing with situations that required assassination rather than discussion or straight forward combat. The fey rulers selected a suitably murderous feline fey species and gave them to Tempus.

Using his power, he infused the fey with the essence of time, transforming them into the chronocats. The chronocats complained bitterly about being handed over as objects of barter. To address their complaints, Tempus granted each chronocat nine lives. If a chronocat were about to die, it would instead leave the time stream and return to the Palace of Time to be healed. The chronocats were pleased by this. Tempus also pointed out that their job would be to engage in assassinations across time and space, thus giving the opportunity to hunt and kill a vast range of prey. They found this appealing and became time’s willing assassins.

Will the PCs survive the chronocats or be pushed off the table of time?
