Class of '09 is a Visual Novel 'rejection simulator' where you take the perspective of a pretty but cynical and depressed teenage girl named Nicole attempting endure high school after moving numerous times. Rather than being a dating simulator type visual novel, the game goads the player to navigate around social relationships the main character does not want to be involved in and puts her in danger.
The game features sharply written dialogue with full voice acting, with a dark and caustic sense of humor. The game tackles subjects of teen suicide, sexual harassment and abuse, substance abuse, physical abuse, social manipulation, murder, white nationalism. Multiple endings and routes are available, the majority ending in bitter tragedy played to comedic effect.
