Description

Conflict is an abstract wargame played on a triangular grid in a trapezoidal configuration. One player is the defender and has a camp on the long side of the trapezoid; the attacker sets up near the short side. The opposing generals are nominally Napoleon and Wellington. Counters (not provided) or miniatures can be used.

There are two basic formations in the game - a hexagon and a line. All units in a formation can be moved at once. However, units have different movement allowances and no unit can exceed its allowance. (Counting generals there are nine different types of units.)

When combat takes place different units may lend their combat value or morale value based on their positions relative to the attacking and defending units.

There are some additional rules for terrain (hexagons representing hills and a town are placed on the board before the game), reinforcements, and formation of infantry "squares."
