Crafting Made Fun

Description

Downtime in Dungeons and Dragons can be as brief or as intricate as you want it to be. Sometimes, it's a wave of a hand and a few months have gone by. More often than not it is a time when characters can focus on what they want to do when they are not being swept up in the currents of the story. Crafting, building, making etc is one of the ways a player can express an interest and engage in role play, while still working towards the story and their character. There are many ways to do this downtime activity, with official books turning it into a hand wave if you have the core component. This guide aims to make crafting into a fun, flavourful process which a DM and a player can get behind.

This guide is designed to break down the crafting process into a method that goes beyond a single dice roll and allows your players to make items they want in a fun and involved way. It will get your players thinking creatively and rewards their efforts in the creation process to make the item.
It covers 3 steps to the craft, breaks down time scales and costs to suit any campaign, and the process for the skill checks and its DC.
