Crystallene are a species of sentient, sapient, crystalline entities. As such, their lives are very much different from the lives of most carbon based creatures. The crystallene first formed up in the high mountain valleys where the concentration of minerals, water, and sunlight were optimal for crystallization. How, or when the crystallene first became sentient is unknown even to them. An even greater mystery is how they became ambulatory. Despite this lack of information, many theories abound.
The crystallene can take on forms of any gender, however, they are a genderless people. They reproduce by breaking off shards of their own bodies and embedding them into the rivers that feed from the high mountains where the minerals and sunlight can take effect. The period of gestation between when the shard is implanted and when a fully grown crystallene emerges from the riverbed typically takes approximately one year. Despite this direct form of propagation, no two crystallene are alike.
A typical crystallene has a life span of 500 years.
