Description

From publisher blurb:

“he was looking for pirate loot and maybe finding it; but there was talk of his dealing with demons there. Fact is, I guess on the whole it was really the Captain that gave the bad reputation to the reef.”

This version of Cthulhu Eternal is specially designed to support Lovecraftian games set anywhere in the world during the 17th Century. This was a period when the expansionist nations of Europe (England, Spain, Portugal, France and the Dutch) all began to leverage their extensive colonial settlements to extract enormous wealth. This happened in both the East Indies (modern-day SE Asia/Micronesia) and also the New World. At the same time, other less scrupulous parties were happy to make a living by raiding some of those trade voyages – whether as private sea robbers (what we commonly call ‘pirates’) or as semi-sanctioned agents of rival European nations (‘privateers’).

At the same time, volatile social change was reshaping both England (which suffered through civil wars and the deposing-and-restoring of the monarchy) and Europe. Wars raged between nations, while swashbuckling musketeers kept their foes at rapier's point and courtiers carried out devious plots and espionage.

The Cthulhu Eternal Age of Sail SRD aims to support a broad spectrum of different types of Lovecraftian game set during this period. Whether you want a gritty and historical tone or something more swashbuckling, these rules give you the building blocks to tailor a memorable and evocative 17th Century tale of dread. Whether it's a tense murder mystery amid the complicated political schemings of the French court, or an action packed chase to stop pirate cultists unleashing Yog-Sothoth to destroy Port Royal, these rules have everything you need.

A notable addition to this version of the Cthulhu Eternal ruleset is a lightweight set of rules for running quick-but-flavor-rich small-scale naval conflicts.
