Daily Akari is a web-based game which presents the user with one puzzle per day. The game consists of a grid of spaces numbering anywhere from 10x10 to 18x18. Blocks appear in certain spaces. Blocks with numerals in them indicate how many lanterns should be placed orthogonally around them: 1, 2, 3, or 4 blocks. Blocks with smiling faces are considered zeros: no lanterns may be placed orthogonally adjacent to them. Blocks with blank faces have no minimum or maximum requirements for lantern placement around them.
The goal of the game is to fill every space on the board with light by placing lanterns around the numeral-marked blocks according to their needs. A lantern placed in any grid square will cause light to be emitted from it in all four orthogonal directions until the ray of light reaches either a block or the end of the board.
One puzzle is presented each day of the week, with a progression of difficulty as the week proceeds. The easiest puzzles are released on Monday and the most difficult puzzles on Sunday. Each puzzle is designated with a number, which iterates up one per day.
The puzzles are selected from a variety of authors who have released them over the years. The creator includes only puzzles which are known to be solvable by logic alone, requiring no brute-forcing or guess-and-check activity by the player. When a puzzle is completed, a clock icon appears in the upper right-hand corner, which the user may click to see how much time the puzzle took to solve.
