Welcome to the Divination RPG Preview!
What you’re reading right now is Part One: Playing Divination, which
provides most of what you need to know to understand and play the
core one-shot version of the game as it stands today. More advanced
information for game masters about how to run the game is covered
in Part Two: Running Divination, which you can find on our website,
DivinationRPG.com.
The Divination RPG Preview began as what most indie game designers
would call a quick start guide, but soon morphed into something much
more. Divination is a brand new game from two relatively unknown
designers, and we get that your first question may rightfully be, “Who
are these folks, and why should I trust that what they’re creating is any
good?”
So we decided that rather than ask you to simply trust, we’d give you
enough in this Preview to prove it. We believe Divination is a truly
revolutionary RPG experience, and it’s important to us for even this
early pre-launch version to represent the care and quality we bring to
all our work. What you’re reading represents almost two full years of
development, playtesting, refining, writing, editing, etc.
We want your journey of learning the game to be easy and enjoyable,
and we want you to know how serious we are about quality in every
aspect of what we create.
That being said; this is still a preview, with early-stage graphic design
and layout. There may be a rogue typo here and there, or an outdated
reference we haven’t yet updated. Some terms and mechanics that
really deserve a full section are just touched on for now, or only
covered in the Glossary. Some of what you’ll find here has been
rigorously playtested, while other elements were revised shortly
before this draft so that you can be our next round of playtesters. And
there are definitely some rules and elements in this version that we
know aren’t quite right yet and are still working out.
This Preview contains information on one-shots, but doesn’t really get
into the incredible, deck-builder-like growth mechanics that reveal
themselves in campaign play.
And the expansive Tarot-based world of magic, danger, power, and
intrigue we’re creating is only just hinted at in these pages.
If you enjoy what you find here in Part One, you’ll also want to pick
up Part Two: Running Divination from our website for a much deeper
dive. And if you want even more Divination, there are plenty of places
to get it:
• Play sessions and campaigns, ask questions, and discuss the game
with us and other Divination fans in our lively Discord community.
• Follow all our latest news on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and
our website.
• Submit feedback and questions through our contact form.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your interest in
Divination RPG. We hope you enjoy the game as much as we’ve
enjoyed shepherding it this far.
