Description

From game introduction:
Welcome to the Dovahkiin 100 role-playing game! Like many people, I have sunk hundreds of hours into Bethesda’s massive and deep RPG, the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. After some time immersed in the latest incarnation of Tamriel, I was eager to translate my characters and their exploits to a tabletop experience, but found the existing options either lacking or overly cumbersome. With that in mind, I set out to create my own game system that captures the balance between Skyrim’s lighthearted axe-swinging and its thoughtful crafting systems. To that end, I made Dovahkiin 100 to be a reasonably slick experience that still lets you dig into the numbers when you feel the need.
Why is it called Dovahkiin 100?
You might be familiar with the twenty-sided die that popular role-playing games use (such as Dungeons and Dragons). In Dovahkiin 100, you resolve most actions by rolling what’s called a d100, or hundred-sided die. Usually, this is represented by rolling two ten-sided dice and counting one as the tens place, and the other as the ones place. This allows Dovahkiin 100 to directly use the 15-to-100 scale that Skyrim uses for skills.
Why should I play Dovahkiin 100?
Skyrim can help players tell epic stories and create memorable characters. Of course, the variety of plots available to the player are expansive, but are somewhat rigid and can be fully explored with little chance for further narrative direction because of the nature of video games. Taking the exciting, pulpy action of Skyrim and faithfully recreating it in tabletop form allows players to continue playing with their beloved characters long after they’ve exhausted the base Skyrim quests. Plus, character creation doesn’t involve twenty minutes of riding in the back of a cart with Ulfric (unless your Worldmaster is really dedicated).
How accessible is Dovahkiin 100 to play?
I created Dovahkiin 100 to be either light or crunchy at the player’s discretion, but there is some double-digit addition required to take part in combat, as well as some light multiplication if you want to participate in crafting or enchanting. The only physical dexterity required is the act of rolling dice, and this can be easily replaced with a digital dice roller (such as the official Wizards of the Coast dice roller!). Beyond that, Dovahkiin 100 is more or less a collection of rules that help translate a real-time game to a tabletop experience, so anything you need to be more comfortable playing is highly recommended! Skyrim might “belong to the Nords”, but role-playing games are for everybody.
