Abhorrent Basilisks are a rare species of monster that has little to do with their stone-gazed namesake. Where one would expect the creature to turn you to stone with an enchanted glance, this creature can instead drive entire villages to madness and murder.
The first warning that an Abhorrent Basilisk has decided to hunt is often an unseasonable fog that spreads quickly and drops visibility to just a few feet. The second warning is rarely noticed, as those breathing the mist become angry, aggressive, and violent. Even the most benign people and animals will begin to attack each other with deadly intent after just a few minutes engulfed in the mists.
A single monster can cause an adventuring company or community to self-destruct in a single night. A nest could annihilate a small city.
Such creatures are designated as kill-on-sight by most adventurers. The only question is, will they even see it before they tear each other apart.
