From the introduction:
Of the three main ways of handling dramatic action in Fate Core—challenges, contests, and conflicts—contests seems to be talked about the least. But when I play Fate these days, I find that I use contests more and more to handle opposition. They’re great for races against the clock, for direct competition for access or resources, and even for some combat situations.
Really, there’s little that contests can’t do in Fate. This collection of essays and rules shows a variety of ways to remix the contest framework for a host of situations. The examples in this book focus on the personal scale, because that’s the most common scale played in roleplaying games, but they easily shift the larger scales by applying the Fate fractal.
