The year is 1962 and the Cold War between Western nations and the U.S.S.R. is in full swing. Tensions around the world are rising to fever pitch, symbolized by the increasing recent rhetoric over the deployment of nuclear missiles to Cuba.
Amid this alarming global climate, normal mundane life continues for most. But for a team of amateur underwater explorers, life is about to become anything but normal. The French-led mission to discover the lost ruins of sunken Atlantis is remarkable enough, but the undisclosed motivations of the expedition principals add curious dimensions to the voyage. Some have an oddly personal connection to the mysteries of the deep, while others have been tainted by its touch.
What waits for the exploration team in the cold briny depths of the unforgiving Atlantic is something far stranger and more ancient than anyone could expect — a dark watery horror that yearns to be free. But even down in the watery depths of the Atlantic Ocean, the tensions fueling the Cold War are not entirely absent.
"Fathoms Below" is an exciting scenario which blends investigation with intrepid exploration, as Protagonists venture out on a grand expedition to discover the final resting place of Atlantis. But Cold War tensions add an extra dimension to this expedition, imbuing it with the possibility of subterfuge and covert undercurrents. After all, not everyone who wishes to locate Atlantis is motivated by purely scientific motives ... as the Protagonists might find out in the most surprising way possible.
