Our story starts after the events of the Great Alteration of 1812, in the small yet booming Pueblo de Santa Barbara in Alta California. Populated by Californios tired of Spanish Rule, the newly established port is witnessing in influx of foreigners of all nationalities introducing new technology and innovations. Meanwhile the Chumash mission neophytes of Santa Inés, Santa Barbara, and La Purísima have begun revolts.
Since these events, the rules of our world no longer apply as we know them. Provided herein is a new world that has been altered and unchained from history. This is low fantasy fiction with supernatural forces at play. When the unexplainable is observed reaction will vary; true believers witness these as miracles, fanatics may declare blasphemy, scientist will provide logical explanations, and skeptics will not believe what they see or hear. Fact is often stranger than fiction. Much of the names, myths and events are drawn from history, rumor, or intentionally inaccurate to create an alternate fantasy.
The standalone FEAST rules presented should be familiar to those who play modern or old school RPGs. Rules are intentionally fast and are simplified in the spirit of games like ICRPG or Knave yet retaining popular modern rules to minimize learning curve. This world is system agnostic, play what you know. Use the rules you like, feel free to re-skin, and modify your favorite d20 system.
