The Seydozero Horror: An adventure to Mythras

This issue we present an anxiety inducing scenario set in the Siberian wilderness of the 1970’s Soviet Union. Some readers may have heard of the Dyatlov Pass Incident concerning the inexplicable deaths of nine hikers in the northern Ural Mountains. However far fewer people have heard of the equally enigmatic occurrences surrounding the Lovozero Massif located in the Kola Peninsula wilderness, a 150 kilometres south east of Murmansk.

This region has long been shrouded in mystery and superstition. Arguably the most sacred locale of the Saami people, Lake Seydozero is where their shamans are interred under seids of vertically piled rocks, within which their spirits still reside. The area is reputed to be guarded by Kuiva, a monstrous giant who once battled the Saami. Unable to defeat the ancient sorcerer with weapons the Saami called upon the great spirit Kolyada, who blasted the giant with lightning, leaving nothing but his 70m tall shadow burned into the rocky face of Angvundaschorr. Rumours also abound of an ancient Hyperborean city, once home to the shamans, carved under one of the grey, grim mountains that encircle the 8 km long lake on three sides, and an island upon which are hidden magical horns which can summon storms.
