This setting pays homage to the moods and themes of the unholy trinity of folk horror films: Witchfinder General, Wicker Man, and The Blood on Satan’s Claw. The players are an ad hoc fellowship attempting to turn back demonic forces. Seemingly innocuous rumors and village gossip unfold into confrontations with otherworldly evil. The rural landscape is rife with mystery and buried secrets. The villagers hold every manner of superstition (some true, some not). Their relative isolation and rigid adherence to provincial behaviors and beliefs have made them rather, let’s say, eccentric. They often become unwitting conduits for malevolent forces. Ancient rituals are rediscovered and turned to nefarious purposes. Witchcraft spreads. Madness runs wild. Illicit behaviors transform the pious into the wicked, sacraments into profanations. Blight touches everything. Tentacles twist upward from fallow fields. Monstrosities emerge from the very earth.
