How to Use This Book

It's a simple process:

1. Determine what terrain the party is moving through. Most rules systems identify a small handful of terrain; Environmental Encounters differentiates 23 different landscapes, from Lava to Coastal, from Grasslands to Pine Forests.
2. Roll. It's just a d20.
3. Look up the Event, Quirk, Combat Encounter, or type of No Encounter that results. There's over 60 different things that could happen, most with a deep variety of additional permutations and riffs that make for thousands of different possibilities!

The majority of the book is system-agnostic, and can be used easily with any TTRPG system. Some specific tools and elements contain rules language tailored to 5E, Pathfinder, Pathfinder Second Edition (P2E), OSR, and Dungeon Crawl Classics (DCC).
