Necromancers raise undead underlings, conjuring wizards summon minions from other dimensions, but artificer’s construct their lackeys. Artificer golemists work to build life for themselves, producing dolls, statues or other finely crafted representations of their ideal servitors and then animating them using magical energies.
This artificer specialism is intended for use in conjunction with the player options as presented in the Player’s Handbook and Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything and the reborn lineage from Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft.
The artificer class originated in the war ravaged Eberron setting, and as a result the majority of its subclasses carry across heavy militaristic overtones. We have been looking at the artificer with a view to making it a, less warlike, crafting caster more relevant within the Forgotten Realms 5e D&D setting. Here we present the second of a series of artificers thus reimagined: The Golemist is an artificer specializing in constructing/animating creatures, providing a minion-based character build that doesn’t rely on necromancy.
