In Grandpa’s Farm, you’ve inherited a long-neglected farmstead and you’re about to spend the next season of your life getting it up and running again. You’ll make steady progress and chronicle your efforts by writing letters to neighbors and loved ones. You’ll also have the option to attend local festivals to trade, compete, and gossip with other farmers.
Inspired by games like Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, and Stardew Valley, Grandpa's Farm emulates slow-life video games by asking players to roleplay farmers while composing actual letters to real or fictional recipients. Farm development is determined by cards dealt from a standard deck of playing cards, and game mechanics ensure that progress increases every season for a satisfying, meditative experience.
Grandpa’s Farm can be played as:
A solo journaling game
A multiplayer game where players collaborate in playing the same farm and character(s)
An epistolary game where players write actual letters to each other detailing their farms’ development over the course of days, weeks, months, or more
Any mix of the above!
To play you'll need:
One standard deck of playing cards per player
Writing materials
A second deck of cards for solo festivals (optional)
A simple calculator (optional)
