Description

A set of rules for naval war gaming in the Ancient era published by the London Wargames Section. The author, Ed Smith, is also the designer of the Avalon Hill game, Trireme, which covers the same topic.

Equipment Needed:
A board
Miniature ships
Movement cards
Average dice (a d6 numbered 2,3,3,4,4,5)
Normal dice
A deck of playing cards (for optioonal rules)

A homemade board (about poster board (22"x28")) consists of 2.5 cm x 2 cm rectangles; each row is offset from the adjacent rows.

Turn Sequence:
1. Wind change (optional rule)
2. Hole plugging
3. Write Manoeuvers (this is a British game design)
4. Movement
5. Oar and crew transfers
6. Archery
7. Oar raking results
8. Ramming results
9. Grappling and backwatering
10. Boarding action results
11. Morale

The player who returns home with the most vessels (including prizes) is the winner in general. Players may agree on other victory conditions, perhaps within the framework of a campaign.
