Grim Heroes was scheduled to be the first game to implement the DiceQuest game system as used in the games, Ancient Terrible Things (2014), Konja (2017) and Ancient Terrible Things: Reawakened (2023).
Grim Heroes remained in development until 2012, at which time Dicequest game system was implemented instead in the game, Ancient Terrible Things.
An advertising card featuring Grim Heroes is included in the first edition of Ancient Terrible Things, with the intention of the game's eventual release after Snowblind: Race for Pole (2015), and the game to be the second to use the Dicequest system. Ultimately, Dicequest Version 2 was published as the 2-player-only game, Konja (2017), and Dicequest Version 3 in the game, Ancient Terrible Things:Reawakened (2023)'
