This is the 91st in an ongoing series aimed to provide the overworked DM with ready-to run encounters.
The PCs encounter the gufuhvalurs and isfiskur, marine creatures magically adapted to the terrible cold of the Mallacht Oighir. Will the PCs survive or become steamed treats for the killers of the frozen sea?
The base encounter is CR 3.
When the gods cursed the D’Aoine Deighe with the Mallacht Oighir, other creatures were caught within this horrific supernatural cold. The gods of nature intervened on behalf of the other inhabitants, enabling them to survive. These included another fey people, the orca-like guhfuhvalurs, and the apex aquatic predator of the area, the isfiskur. Both species were imbued with elemental fire which enabled them to endure the life stealing cold. They were also granted the ability to spew forth steam. The air-breathing guhfuvalurs use this ability to melt through the ice to reach the air and both species use it to create passages through the ice. This ability also serves as a formidable breath weapon.
The guhfuhvalur are often curious and inquisitive, thus they have knowledge of the location of undersea ruins and shipwrecks that might interest PCs. The isfiskur are fearsome predators and most try to avoid them.
