From publisher blurb:
GWYDION AT A GLANCE
Gwydion is a world inspired by Celtic, Irish, and Gaelic mythology, The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander, and Athurian legends. With themes stemming from darker, more mature fantasy, as well as a grittier world, Gwydion offers five unique realms for Alders and wanderers, all with different feels and games you could run in them. Take advantage of this, and welcome to the highlands and moors.
There are four core concepts to keep in mind when running a game within Gwydion:
1. Each nation has its own conflict. The five nations all have their own struggles within the world of Gwydion: some choosing to isolate themselves from the conflict with the Righaradach, others on the frontlines. This allows you to easily focus and spend time in just one or two of the countries of Gwydion: perhaps your wanderers are all from Cyaervald or Scaeldra and focusing on adventures within them, with the undead threat in the background. 2. Faith is long-faded. Any religion that has been left, any scrap of divinity in Gwydion - it is barely hanging on. After the gods agreed to leave Gwydion, their powers have faded, their names disappeared, and their stories lost. For those who are still religious, many see these individuals as hopeless fools wanting to rely on dead gods.
3. Hope is dying. Few people have the strength or want to stand fast undead legions, the Righaradach and that the attacks of the bulwarks falling more and more often. Gwydion is filled with small pockets of fervor and optimism, but, most of the world sees that the end is near, and accepts it.
4. Magic is not trusted. Magic is what the Righaradach uses to summon their undead soldiers to kill and harvest the living. Magic was thought to be able to keep the people safe, but now only proves that it can only be used for bad. Those who openly display or might harbor some magical abilities are seen as threats, and are dealt with as such.
JOURNEY THROUGH THE FIVE ANCIENT KINGDOMS OF GWDION AND FIGHT AGAINST THE RIGHADHARACH!
There sat a great cauldron at the beginning of creation, within the misty mountains that sprung from the dark. Out of it flowed the fog of creation, and from it was born the lands and peoples and gods. The gods were beautiful and terrible, creative and destructive, and from their allegiances and battles were formed the four realms of Gwydion: Brythani, Scaeldra, Eyreti, and Waldon. The gods of Gwydion agreed that their powers were too great to continue to damage the islands of their peoples, so they laid down their arms, and returned to the Otherworld, that world beyond the waters and fogs, through doorways unknown to all but a few. Behind them though they left their mighty weapons and artifacts, formed into great stone circles where mortals could seek their knowledge. Today though, the lands of Gwydion are beginning to rumble of turmoil again, as a new enemy - the Righadharach and his shadowy undead warriors begin to make their attack against the realm of Waldon, and his allies begin to disturb the peace of Brythani, Scaeldra and Eyreti as well.
