Hades (PL 15) is the god of the underworld and king of the dead. He is the eldest son of the titans Cronos and Rhea. He was consumed by his father shortly after his birth, and eventually freed by his brother Zeus, during the War of the Gods. Following the defeat of the titans, Hades was selected to be the King of the Underworld and serve as the warden of Tartarus, the prison for the titans.
As Lord of the Underworld, Hades is served by a massive court of judges, advocates, and servitors. These agents serve to ensure the spirits of the dead move on to the afterlife to which they are destined. Perhaps the most famous and noteworthy companion of Hades is his faithful three-headed canine, Cerberus (PL 12). This monstrous beast serves as the guardian to the gates of Tartarus. He ensures that no one gets in who does not belong, and most assuredly to keep those within from escaping.
