Wealth built Astra. Trade, craft, tourism, Astra was the home of the best. From the lowly days as a small village, Astra became the heart of commerce and bureaucracy.

Where wealth exists, so do those who hoard it. Among the new citizens of this busy town, some loaned and invested and bought their way to a seat of power. It was soft at first, benevolent. They brought people up from the muck, gave them jobs and purpose. Grateful beyond words for the new lives, debts grew. Because it is not generosity that made the town evolve, but an opportunistic greed.

In less than a generation, a new social class had risen: The Old Elite. Every trade, every purchase, every employment contract, they knew about. Their fingers were firmly locked in every pie in the city. They controlled who had and who had not. Discontent mounted as their greed became more cruel and more brazen, until, one day, The Old Elite had not.

The new citizen council was established to govern the city, the Oversight Guild. Free from the corruption and vices of their predecessors, the Oversight Guild made Astra flourish, brighter and busier than ever before. The citizens were happy, fed and clothed. Tourists loved the new joy on the city streets, the welcoming nature of the denizens.

Malcontents, holdovers from the previous regime, had lost so much. Wealth, property, power, all redistributed into the hands of the laypeople. They are not unified, their methods will vary wildly. Some hope to use law to worm their way back onto the council, some are hoping to corrupt the new, democratic process. Some are willing to burn orphanages just to make the Oversight Guild look weak so they may present themselves as strong defenders.

There are rumours that these malcontents have the City Guard in their pockets. Rumours that the Guard firmly denies, even as the head of the Guard fights for control and order within her ranks. The new landscape of Astra, once destined to be bright and prosperous, is bending to the reality of poison in the streets. The people know there are threats, even as some pretend life is as good as it could ever be.

Astra is an expansion for our Haldskyr setting, bringing new lore, locations and characters to your DayLITE: Fantasy table! Journey to the capital of the Eastern Domain and explore its various districts before heading out into the wilderness. Jack's fantastic writing spells tons of fun for potential noir-like stories, while DD's character art adds a playfulness and charm to it all.

Join one of the guilds and gain patrons to fund your race to the top. Will you join the sprint for wealth, or fight to break down the Old Elite and their ilk?
