Heroes of Normandie: War Stories #01 – Blue and Grey at Moon-sur-Elle

Five days after D-Day, on June 11th, 1944, the men of the 29th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop were ordered to maintain the liaison between the 101st U.S. Airborne and the 175th Infantry Regiment (29th Infantry Division) near Sainte-Marguerite-d’Elle.

They were then sent to scout the roads leading to Moon-sur-Elle. Strong opposition awaited them and the fighting was fierce. It was critical to current operations to establish an observation post in the village, so it had to be taken, regardless of the cost!
