For decades, a monster named Nian roamed the land. Once a year, this monstrosity would descend from the mountains, attacking villages and slaughtering their inhabitants.
In a particular year, a man, presumed to be a celestial, bravely confronted the beast and drove away the part lion, part unicorn, part ox creature. The Hero in Red shared his secret with the villagers, and for many years, they lived in safety... until now.
"Heroes of the Lunar New Year" follows the lore of the Lunar New Year. Players help protect the village of Dōngtiān jiéshù against the monster Nian. They stalk demons (Yaoguai), trek through a poisonous swamp in search of the "Hero in Red," and attempt to pass a monk trial to obtain the only item capable of trapping the monster for good.
