Elemental based magical system. Mana in the world has nine affinities. Spells all have specific elements at their core. Healing spells would be nature aligned, agility would be wind, endurance/durability would be earth etc. There are also three separate affinities not of the world, them being time, gravity, and space. As such these three are extremely rare.
