Hyperbolic Chess

Game ID: GID0163974

Description

In this game, the rules of chess are exactly the same, but the geometry is completely different. As long as you carefully follow the rules for the movement of the pieces, you will be O.K., but the geometry of a concave surface can make things confusing.

Two lines can intersect in more than one point. That means that a queen has two different ways to get from point A to point B. A bishop can change colors and you can even end up with two bishops on the same color. A rook in the center of the board controls two adjacent rows. If a knight is near the center, it can land on the same color as the square it left.

You can win by either checkmating an opponent or by taking enough pieces of value from your opponents before being checkmated. Thus, aggressive play is often rewarded. There is a small score board with wooden discs to keep track of points earned (better pieces are worth more points).
