The Illimat Syzygy Coin: A bronze challenge coin that when used as an okus has official gameplay properties. The coin uses the Luminary Sun & Initiate Moon illustrations by Carson Ellis from the game Illimat.
The Luminary Matriarch added a special rule when using the Syzygy Coin as an okus. When a player clears a field and collects the Syzygy Coin, they must immediately flip the coin; this occurs before drawing cards, refilling the field, or revealing the Luminary.
If this flip reveals the Sun, it’s Opposition. The player who claimed the coin must give one card from their hand to each of the other players in the game, beginning with the players to their left and continuing clockwise.
If this flip reveals the Moon, it’s a Conjunction. The player who claimed the coin must take one card chosen at random from the hand of each player, beginning with the player to their left and continuing clockwise.
The effects of the Syzygy will leave one or more players with more than four cards in their hand. This is temporary. Players only draw cards at the end of the turn if they have fewer than four cards in their hand.
The coin was originally commissioned by Benjamin Franklin to circulate the meeting dates of his local Philadelphia society chapter.
