Description

From publisher blurb:

The void is endless, but its horrors are not. They lurk in the unseen corners of the cosmos, whispering in the static, waiting in the cold between the stars. You have sailed these dark currents before, your hands stained with the sins of a thousand raids, your name spoken in fear in the deep-space colonies where light barely reaches. Once, you were a pirate, a predator among the stars, answering to no law but your own. But now, the stars have grown darker. The old ways have shattered, and a new horror has taken root in the black abyss. It started as a rumor—a ghost signal rippling through subspace channels, reaching the ears of outlaws and smugglers alike. The Black Star Cartel, the great pirate syndicate that once ruled the underworld, had changed. Their captains no longer spoke of wealth or power; they spoke of conversion, of submission, of something greater than flesh and void itself. The Cartel's fleets, once ruled by greed and blood, had become something unholy—twisted warships of fused metal and sinew, their crews no longer men, but things remade in the image of an unknowable will. You saw it with your own eyes. The Daggerwake Corsairs, your old crew, were among the first to fall. One by one, they turned—not by blade or bullet, but by something inside them, something that corrupted their very beings. You watched as your former brothers and sisters spoke in tongues not meant for human throats, their eyes hollow voids of black and gold, their bodies reshaped into something monstrous. The Cartel had become more than an empire of thieves—it had become a cult, and their master was something far worse than any warlord. You ran. Not out of fear, but out of necessity. The abyss had claimed your past, but your future was still unwritten. You were hunted, chased from system to system, a traitor to the Black Star Cartel and a fugitive to the law. But then, in the forgotten reaches of the Veil-13 sector, you found something unexpected. The Veilborn Rangers—a new order of warriors, forged from exiles, criminals, and the damned. They did not fight for law, nor for revenge, but for something greater—the redemption of those who had lost their way. They took you in, not as a prisoner, but as a soldier with one last chance. If you wished to be more than the sins of your past, if you wished to burn away the darkness that had claimed your former brothers and sisters, then you would fight under their banner.
