Invasion is the first part of a trilogy of Quests for the Chronicles of Arax solo adventure game. This Quest tells the first part of the story and will be followed by part 2, Quest for the Light, and part 3, The Battle of Greystone.
The small village of Riverdale has been your home for the last several weeks. Your previous adventure had left you tired and drained, and the many small injuries you had sustained needed time to heal. Riverdale was known for its peace and tranquility, so you settled down in the local inn, enjoying the hospitality and letting time rejuvenate your body.
It has been three weeks since you arrived and you feel much better. In fact, you feel so good you begin to prepare for your next adventure. It is said that a stolen treasure can be found hidden on a small island off the coast, and you decide that a quest like that sounds like a good idea. You resolve to set off... But not until tomorrow, for tonight the people of Riverdale will be celebrating the Festival of Dawn, an annual event heralding in the first day of Spring.
The night is great, with much mirth and merriment to be had. The ale flows freely, though you make sure not to drink too much lest you find yourself in no condition to travel tomorrow. By the end of the night you are happy but exhausted and you are asleep as soon as your head hits your pillow.
You awaken at dawn to the sound of screaming. You leap to your feet, grab your weapons and prepare for whatever might be happening. ` However, nothing can prepare you for what you see as you exit the inn.
Riverdale is burning. Flames consume many of the buildings as men, women and children run in terror. And then, you see the cause of the chaos. A black-bodied thing, all muscle, with bat-like wings appears before you. You strike it down but then see many more of the beasts. Demons, you realize.
Suddenly you are hit from behind. You never see what it is that does it, for you lose consciousness as you hit the ground. When you awaken your nostrils are filled with the smell of smoke. Early morning light greets you as you open your eyes and survey the once beautiful village of Riverdale. All that is left is a husk of a town, the buildings burnt to the ground and its people slaughtered. There is nothing left.
Your adventuring instincts kick in. You know you must head to the nearest centre of authority to report this attack. Greystone is the nearest city, and you have worked for its leader, Lord Holgar, a couple of times before. You decide you must head to Greystone t o report the attack and offer help to Lord Holgar in wiping out the demonic army that did this.
