From the introduction:
Jason Jenkins was down on his luck, and signed up for clinical trials for a few bucks. All subjects gained temporarily enhanced physical abilities, but soon began to die. The research was scrapped and covered up, but the experimental drug has been modified and dubbed "Zip". It has been shipped to the street gang known as the "Violet Phantoms" for distribution.
