Description

IntroductionLauniz (from Proto-Germanic: laubinassuz, meaning “leafiness”) is a stalling game for two players: Light green and Dark green. It is played on the hexagons (cells) of an initially empty hexagonal board. The recommended size is 7 cells per side, although boards of 5 and 9 are also valid. Each player has a sufficient supply of stones of his or her color.

Definitions:
A tree is a maximal set of at most stones of the same color connected to each other. A single stone is also a tree.
A leaf is a stone adjacent to exactly one friendly stone.

Turns:Dark plays first, then turns alternate. On your turn, do these actions in the following order:

Place a stone of your color on an empty cell adjacent to at most three non-adjacent friendly stones.
Remove enemy trees adjacent to a friendly tree whose leaf count increases due to your placement, provided that such trees have fewer leaves than your tree.

When two or more trees of the same color merge, the capture can only occur if the number of leaves of the new tree exceeds the number of leaves of the tree with the most leaves among the merged trees.

End of the game:The player who places the last stone wins.

To balance the game, before the start, the first player places a black stone on an empty cell and the second player chooses a side. This method of balancing is called the pie rule.
