The players take on the roles of debutantes — young ladies making their entrance into good society. Their happiness and future security are dependent on making an advantageous match with a person of means and a good name. This courtship happens in public view during the season’s society engagements. They must find someone to marry without falling into disgrace, or embroiling themselves in a scandal that would destroy their reputation.
