From the introduction:

Objective: Life on the Southern homefront during the Civil War was a hardship for many people. Not only was the Confederacy blockaded by the Union navy, but marauding armies also created scarcity of even the most staple foods such as corn and pork. Students will be allocated certain material resources and a scenario in which they must problem solve solutions. After concluding this lesson, students will gain a personal understanding of some of the hardships endured by Southern families in the American Civil War.
