Liuxiang Liu stopped her nanotorch and allowed herself a silent sigh before forcing herself to acknowledge the intern and his imprudent greeting. She carefully placed the nanotorch down on the workbench beside the equipment that she’d now be delayed in repairing and gave the young man far more attention than he deserved.
She fixed the intern with an arctic stare. He knew what that look meant.
“I’m sorry…Liuxiang.”
The stare didn’t waver.
“Miss Liu?”
She finally thawed her gaze. “You’re tardy, Ron. Punctuality is the hallmark of good work, wouldn’t you agree?”
“Y-yes, Miss Liu,” Ron stammered.
She picked up the nanotorch. “I’ll thank you to get to work on that inverse anion booster,” she used the tool to indicate the device on a nearby workbench. “I need it analyzed and completed by 1200; by then I’ll have another assignment for you.” Without another word, she returned to her work.
Liuxiang Liu is a talented technician from a backwater planet who is motivated by a inner drive to succeed and the advice of her beloved and respected father. But a dark incident in per past wrote a chapter of her life that she struggles with to this day, and that might eventually prove to be yet another impediment to her goals.
Dossier: Liuxiang Liu is a short character sketch for 2D6 science fiction RPGs such as Cepheus Engine and the Original Science Fiction Roleplaying Game (OSFRPG), although it’s usable with other systems with a little work.
