From the introduction:
"He had finally made it, his hand gripped the top of the ledge and he pulled himself over. He lay there, exhausted, the great door was in front of him and the sheer 10 mile high face of Cori Celesti was behind him. Doonshan, soon-to-be-god, stood up and walked towards the door. He was about to pull it open when he heard a voice, "Oi, what you doing? Only the gods are allowed in there.". Doonshan turned, "But I am a god" he said, a note of worry entering his voice. "Not according to this you ain't", a small man appeared from a recess beside the door, he was carrying a red and white pole with a figurine on the top. "Unless you're taller than this Small God here", he indicated the figurine, "you can't get in. And it's more than my job's worth to let a little godlet like yourself get in.". Doonshan slumped down on to the ledge, "Well how much do I need to grow?". The man looked at him speculatively and then said, "Hmm, about 100 worshipers...give or take a few...". Doonshan looked even more downcast, "But everybody in my village worships me.", he said in a resigned tone of voice, "Where else can I attract souls?". The small man glanced around, as if to check that no-one was listening, then he whispered, "Well if I was you, squire, I'd get some of my people to go on a quest to get more followers, get them to go to a big city, Ankh-Morpork maybe, you'd get 100 souls there, no problem...". A smile crept on to Doonshan's face and in a far more upbeat voice he said, "That's what I'll do, I'll send my best warriors and priests, another 100 souls, that won't be a problem. It's only 100 hundred souls, what could possibly go wrong...?"
