Description

From publisher blurb:

It is 1992 in the Pacific Northwest.

Harold Huntington, the wealthy owner of a local fishery in Marmot Falls, is found dead, his car driven off the road and partially submerged in the Leloba river. According to the police, Huntington died on impact when crashing into a large rock jutting out of the water. No foul play is suspected. Huntington was talking to his daughter, Mercedes, on his cell phone while driving, and this distraction might have been the cause of the accident. A rumor has spread that Mercedes heard her father say, “What the hell is that?!” moments before plowing through the guardrail and plunging into the cold water.

The only witness to the accident is a local conspiracy theorist and hermit, Terry Gumble, who claims that he saw a shimmering figure appear in the middle of the road, which caused Huntington to swerve. According to Gumble’s statement, Huntington is part of a shadow government cabal planted in Marmot Falls to test out a new mind-control drug on the population, and Gumble believes that Harold Huntington failed his alien taskmasters and was eliminated as an example to the rest of the Huntington family.

Although the idea of extraterrestrial overlords running Marmot Falls sounds a little far-fetched, you can’t help but wonder what Huntington actually saw on the road that night…
